Hâpax is an owner-led concrete practice. I work directly with clients to understand the space, explain what the material will realistically do, and define a clear path to the finished result.
What twenty-three years changes
Concrete can do remarkable things. It can also expose every assumption made before the work begins. The value of experience is not having a rehearsed answer—it is knowing which questions need to be answered first.

What does not
A material or system should never be forced into a project simply because it is familiar or fashionable. Sometimes the most useful recommendation is to change the approach—or not use concrete at all.
Expectations matter
Concrete has natural variation, and existing slabs have a history. I would rather explain the likely range of outcomes before work begins than defend a surprise afterward.
Communication is part of the craft
Clients deserve to understand the recommendation, the tradeoffs, what happens next, and where uncertainty remains. Expertise is most useful when it makes a difficult decision clearer.

Not every idea becomes a Hâpax project. The right fit matters. If I believe another material, system, or approach will serve the space better, I will say so.

Our shop and studio are at 426 West 23rd Street in Norfolk, Virginia. Please arrange a visit so we can give your project the attention it needs.
Where does Hâpax work?
We review installation inquiries across approved ZIP codes in Hampton Roads, Williamsburg and parts of Richmond. Travel, service and project scope affect whether a particular job is a fit. Suitable shippable pieces may be considered farther away.
Do you pour driveways, patios or foundations?
No. Hâpax focuses on finished concrete floors, architectural precast pieces and garage spaces. We can review custom architectural pieces intended for an outdoor setting individually.
What should I send for a first conversation?
Your project ZIP or address, rough dimensions, what the space or piece needs to do, your timing and a few clear photos are a great start. Drawings or inspiration can help with custom work. Our project brief lets you share what you already know.
